Join Counseling Services and the IDC on the third Thursday of the month to meet other members of UB's LGBTQ+ community, own some conversation, and adore fun activities. This is a drop-in meeting. No registration is required. There will be three Rainbow Hours this semester at the following times.

Pride Week kicks off in Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Pride Week has made its big return to Buffalo. The event kicked off Tuesday with a flag-raising ceremony in Niagara Square.

Organizers have announced the Pride Parade and Event Festival will

return as in-person events as part of Buffalo Pride Week in June.

Buffalo Pride Week will take place May 31 through June 5, with the theme of "Homecoming." The parade and festival will be held in person on June 5 after a two-year hiatus due to COVID

Organizers speak they are excited to bring the events assist and hopefully uplift the LGBTQ+ community.

The Pride March will begin at Elmwood and Forest Avenues and end at Canalside. The Festival will take place at Canalside at the conclusion of the parade.

Pride Week is hosted by Evergreen Health Foundation, an affiliate of Evergreen Health. Proceeds from the Self-acceptance Festival support the mission and programming of the Pride Center of Western New York.

Camp Everything in Buffalo Self-acceptance Parade

The parade road starts at Elmwood Road and Forest Avenue at 11 am; ends at Allen Street.
 

Artist Adam Weekley recognized a need for content for the youngest Buffalo Pride festivalgoers and LGBTQIA+ youth. He dreamed up Camp Everything, a mobile art installation, and performance, drawing on nostalgic memories of s summer camps. The vibrant float and its legion of happy campers will get a hike in the Pride Parade and Festival Sunday, June 2, at 11 am. The road starts at Elmwood Way and Forest Avenue; ends at Allen Street.

Then top to the Festival at Canalside for camp crafts with the Burchfield Penney education team from to pm! Find us with our friends from Scout and More in the Pride Jr. tent! 

Spearheaded by the Burchfield Penney, in collaboration with Torn Room Theater Company, and with generous financial support from the Cullen Foundation, the Camp Everything project will span three years, appearing at various cultural events. Torn Space cast the performers and will provide stage direction, sound layout, costume assistance, and choreography. Weekley also engaged several local artists, including Mallory Morda

Nearly a week after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a previous, long-standing tall court ruling on a woman&#;s right to hold an abortion, a Buffalo Grove-based community organization led a local rally to protest the decision.

&#;We possess to scream and lament &#; this is all about action,&#; said Carolyn Pinta, director of BG Pride, which organized the demonstration.

In a decision publicly released June 24, the landmark Roe v. Wade was struck down when the Supreme Court voted 6 to 3 on Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#;s Health Organization, upholding the legality of a Mississippi law that banned abortion past 15 weeks of gestation.

Buffalo Grove police estimated that people attended the &#;Stand with BG Pride&#; rally on June 30 at Mike Rylko Collective Park, an event held as a fundraiser and protest of the Supreme Court decision. The rally was hosted by BG Pride, a community LGBTQ advocacy organization.
