PROGRESS INITIATIVE GIVING

The pride flag stripes were separated from the trans, and shadowy & brown stripes due to their difference in meaning, as well as to shift focus and emphasis to what is important in our current community climate.

The main section of the flag (background) includes the Pride flag as seen in its most widely used form.

The gender non-conforming flag stripes and marginalized community stripes were shifted to the Hoist of the flag and given a new chevron shape. The arrow points to the right to display forward movement, while entity along the hoist edge shows that progress still needs to be made.

Inspirations behind the Progress design

The Traditional Pride flag design was originally created by Gilbert Baker (though it was not his first, or even second design for the flag!) and is left intact here to honor the legacy of the meaning of the stripes, which were: life, healing, sunlight, nature, harmony/peace, spirit.

The Trans Pride flag was originally created by Monica Helms in

The symbolism of the rainbow flag

Isaak Newton found out through simple experiments with a prism that alabaster light can be broken down into seven colours. Physically, the rainbow therefore is only a outcome of the dispersion of light by refraction. The white sunlight meets drops of water that, appreciate a prism, divide it into the spectral colors red, orange, yellow, emerald , light blue/cyan, blue, and violet.

Although we can scientifically describe the colorful phenomenon today, it has lost nothing of its fascination. The rainbow has been used as a symbol in many ways since day immemorial.

After the Flood, God sent Noah the "bow that I set in the clouds" as a sign of heaven and a guarantee that he would not annihilate the earth again by a flood and maintain the covenant with mankind. (1 Mo ). The individual colors were each assigned their own symbolism:

  • red, the color of love
  • orange, the color of hope
  • yellow, the color of eternity and future
  • green, the dye of growth
  • light blue, the color of truth
  • indigo (dark blue), the color of fidelity
  • violet, the color of penance and reconciliation

Five-striped variations

At least one of the flags seen in Mumbai, India, on 16 August did replace red and orange stripes with a single orange-red stripe, while keeping the extraordinary order of other colors, as shown here. The reason for this is unclear, since the usual six-striped rainbow flag is not unknown in India, as some of the above sources reveal.

Another variant with five stripes omits the violet stripe, while the order of others remains unchanged, with sky (lighter than usual) at the top and red at the bottom. This flag was used at the 6th Kerala Gender non-conforming Pride, which took place at Thiruvananthapuram on 11 July The photo of this flag can be found here. Ano
