There are also other bars, restaurants, shops, associations exclusive for LGBT public that you can easily locate on the web. I recommend you to review their opening time as they may change throught the year.

Two best famous LGBTQ+ annual activities in Bilbao, and that I love, are:

  • The International LGBT Film Festival ZINEGOAK.
LGBTQ Clip Festival in Bilbao.

That takes place in Bilbao from February to March (in it will continue traveling by the Basque Region until April to check in smaller towns to spread the diversity all along our geography).

  • Bilbao Pride. Which happens in June.

Both events have multiple activities for all audiences and interests.

Bilbao Pride in Bilbao.

And if you like well-liked festivals, you have not to miss "Semana Grande" in August, a fantastic local experience and unlock to diversity.

There are a few LGBT associations in Bilbao and its province Biscay: Aldarte, Bizigay, Hegoak, Errespetatuz, Katalingorri & Sehaska.

About Bilbao and its gay life

Bilbao (also known as Bilbo in Basque) is located in the far north of Spain and, with almost one million inhabitants (including the periphery), is the fifth largest metropolitan area in Spain (after Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville).

Bilbao is also the largest and most important city in the Basque Autonomous Community. Many Basques today attach fantastic importance to their autonomy and identity, not least because of the suppression of Basque culture, language and traditions during the decades of Franco's right-wing dictatorship. Especially in the vicinity of Bilbao, many inhabitants speak explicit Basque, a language that bears no resemblance to Spanish or other Romance languages
